The fellow will have the opportunity to work with other members of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery during the fellowship year. Other teaching faculty that will host the fellows for observation include the Mohs Surgeons at Women’s College Hospital (Dr. Nowell Solish and Dr. Christian Murray) and Cosmetic Dermatology (Dr. Vince Bertucci and Dr. Lisa Kellett). |

Annual Stipend/Salary |
The stipend for the fellow is $50,000.00 per annum in Canadian dollars for 2016-17. Malpractice insurance is arranged through the Canadian Medical Protective Association by the fellow on the basis of an educational or limited license. Health Insurance is provided through UHIP and OHIP during the fellowship year. |
Additional Benefits |
The fellow is given three weeks leave during the year which is to be arranged as closely as possible with absences of the Fellowship Director from the practice. All time away from the practice must be cleared in advance with the Fellowship Director. Time off to interview for a new position following the fellowship is part of the 3 week leave. |
On Call Responsibilities |
The fellow is on-call for after-hours and weekend call for the patients Dr. Asaria including private practice and community hospital otolaryngology call (Humber River Hospital) with some visits required to the office on weekends. |
Case Mix |
Surgical exposure will include approximately 200 rhinoplasties (50 revision), 75 aging face cases, 25 Mohs reconstructions and 30 hair restorations. The fellow will have an excellent exposure to non-surgical aspects of facial plastic surgery. |
Typical Weekly Timetable |
The fellow will spend four days per week in a private practice setting and one day per week at a community hospital. This will involve approximately three days per week in the operating room and two days per week in clinic. Exposure to both major operative cases and minor procedure cases will be available. The fellow’s responsibility in the OR will be gradually increased throughout the year. |
Application Deadline |
The fellow for the following year is chosen in the match by the AAFPRS in early June of the preceding year. Applicants will arrange for a visit to Toronto to become acquainted with the program prior to May 30th the year before their fellowship. |

The decision regarding the July 1st fellowship is usually made by May/June of the preceding year (i.e. 12-14 months in advance) |
Additional Features of the Fellowship |
Dr. Asaria offers a dynamic fellowship located in the heart of one of North America’s most cosmopolitan cities. This fellowship has the advantage of immersion in a high volume facial plastic surgery practice that encompasses the scope of the specialty. Upon completion of the fellowship, the fellow will have a solid foundation in both aesthetic and reconstructive aspects of facial plastic surgery with the ability to excel in either an academic or private setting. The primary strength of this fellowship is the hands-on exposure to a diverse array of cases and techniques.
The candidate must be an independent worker, independent thinker, and be able to work in a supervised team environment. The fellow will have access to office space and facial plastic surgery resources including a textbook library, computer access to online journals, and the AAFPRS video series. As a condition of their medical educational licensure, clinical fellows must register with the University’s PGME Office. An Orientation Handbook can be downloaded from the homepage of the PGME Office’s website. The Handbook contains useful information for new fellows, including a timeline for the registration process. |
